Vova Galchenko’s New Promo Video

Vova Galchenko seems to be stepping up his marketing game. His Web site has been updated to include all of his latest TV appearances, new photos, and a better sales pitch for his corporate, college, and motivational speaking performances. According to his site, we haven’t seen much of him lately because he’s been focused on his academic endeavors as a computer science major at USC. But don’t worry,

Although Vova has considerably scaled down his media features and performing schedule in the past year, he maintained his strict juggling practice schedule. He is currently planning his return to the performing scene, so watch out for him in 2010.

Phew! I’m sure the world of computer science has enjoyed having him on their team, but the Juggling Subculture is ready to welcome back it’s prodigal son.

Here’s Vova’s new promo video for 2010:

Anthony Gatto vs. Vova Galchenko

I came across this article from the Boston Globe comparing two of the golden boys of juggling, Anthony Gatto and Vova Galchenko. Recently on an episode of Celebrity Circus, Galchenko beat a world record for 5-club 5-up-360’s, performing the trick 21 times in a minute. Gatto responded with a YouTube video of himself performing the trick 24 times and declaring the record bogus. The juggle-off continued as both parties sought to out-do each other over YouTube until Gatto opted out with somewhat of a regret for starting duel in the first place.

Clearly both men are extremely talented jugglers. Both come from very different schools of juggling which are hard to compare. Even Galchenko admits, however, that Gatto is in a league of his own when it comes to consistently performing at very high level. Whoever is the best, it’s great to get this kind of press for juggling. It brings excitement and interest to the juggling subculture. I think Galchenko and Gatto should face off on some more fronts just for the publicity it draws!

Forget about who’s the best, who’s your favorite juggler, Anthony Gatto or Vova Galchenko?

Vova Galchenko in the New York Times

Vova Galchenko is a giant in the juggling subculture. He (and his sister Olga) have been all over the WJF competitions and have some great videos on YouTube.

Here’s a great profile written about Vova in Play, the New York Times online sports magazine.

It’s always interesting when a non-juggler writes about a juggler. It’s clear that this reporter “gets it” when it comes to the skill, the passion, the dedication, and the hard work that goes into juggling.
